Buying a phone: what to check before you pay
A few simple checks that help you leave the shop with a genuine handset that works the way it should.

A new phone is a big purchase. These checks help, wherever you buy.
1. Make sure it's genuine
Buy genuine handsets, as sold by the manufacturer. Check that the box, the phone and the settings menu all show the same model and serial/IMEI number.
2. Try it in your hand
Switch it on, make a test call, open the camera and check the screen for marks or dead spots before you pay.
3. Match the accessories
Chargers, cables and cases are the parts that keep a phone working. Ask which charger suits your model — the wrong one can damage the battery.
4. Ask for help setting it up
Moving contacts, WhatsApp and photos from your old phone is easier with someone beside you.
5. Ask what's in stock first
Stock changes every day. Call or WhatsApp before you travel so you're not disappointed.
Come and talk it through — our stand is the big one opposite Amana Bank in Arusha.
