From selling food at college to Tazan Group
How a 19-year-old's food business at college grew into a group working across tourism, retail, automotive services and community development.

Tazan was founded by Abdulhamid Rafii Amir, a young Tanzanian entrepreneur, in 2018, when he was just 19 years old.
Starting small
The journey began with selling food at college, where Abdulhamid started small by providing food to fellow students. This early experience became the foundation of Tazan, helping him develop valuable skills in business, customer service, and entrepreneurship.
Thinking bigger
As the business grew, Abdulhamid explored new opportunities and expanded Tazan beyond the food business. Tazan later ventured into the mobile phone and accessories business, establishing a growing presence in the electronics market.
Creating impact
Today, Tazan operates through several divisions, each created to serve a specific purpose while contributing to the company's broader vision:
- Tazan Tours — focused on tourism, travel, and creating memorable experiences that showcase the beauty of Tanzania.
- Tazan Stores — dedicated to mobile phones, accessories, electronics, and other retail products.
- Tazan Foundation — established to support community development, social initiatives, and meaningful causes that improve people's lives.
From selling food at college to building a growing brand with multiple divisions, Tazan is built on one principle: start small, think bigger, create impact, and keep moving forward.
